Standard Poodle Boris is adopted and finds stairs, doorways and hallways a challenge

Boris went to his new home with John and Nora in San Rafael last week. His new "sister", Bella, is a friendly curly-coated retriever. We all met outside John's house and went for a walk with the dogs (a la Cesar Millan). Bella and Boris were friendly on the walk so we decided to let them romp in the backyard. The yard is on a steep slope with a lot of stairs. Boris took one look and put on the brakes. John gently coaxed him down a few stairs at a time and finally arrived at the lawn. The dogs sniffed, ran about and eventually Boris bound up the stairs with no hesitation.
The next day when I checked in, John was ecstatic about Boris. He did notice that Boris hesitated at doorways and even the hallway. We see this with some rescue poodles. Perhaps he hadn't spent too much time indoors before, and the confined spaces concerned him. With gentle guidance he will quickly learn that stairs, doorways and hallways are all part of the suburban poodle lifestyle. We look forward to hearing about Boris' progress from John and Nora and wish them all much happiness.

Boris is doing very well in his new home... At first he was a little quiet and reserved, but in the past few days he has perked up a lot and is seeming right at home. He loves to run and play with Bella and with other dogs. We feel really lucky to have him as part of our family.
